Gunfire Erupts at Howe Park Wounds Multiple Gunshot Victims in the Arden-Arcade Area of Sacramento

Sacramento authorities are investigating a shooting that occurred on April 18 2026 at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area just as authorities were clearing an unsanctioned gathering of an estimated several hundred individuals.

Background

Officers from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office were first called to Howe Park around half past six in the evening after receiving reports of subjects reportedly carrying hidden weapons. Not long after, additional information came in regarding a possible fight happening within the park grounds.

A law enforcement helicopter scanned the area from the air but was unable to locate the reported altercation. However, authorities discovered that an enormous crowd had assembled at the park without authorization.

The Moment Gunfire Erupted

Officers began the process of clearing the park by surrounding the park and making announcements instructing the hundreds present to vacate the area. Nearly 15 minutes were spent for individuals to vacate.

It was during this dispersal that 20 to 25 gunshots were fired. The rapid succession of shots triggered a stampede. Officers wasted no time in looking for those injured.

The Shooting Victims

When the dust settled, four individuals were discovered with shooting injuries. All four — made up of one woman and three men each reported to be in their 20s at the time of the incident — were rushed to local Sacramento hospitals. Hospital staff confirmed that two had critical injury classifications, one sustained moderate wounds, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. According to authorities, all four victims survived and were stable.

Sacramento Metro Fire assisted at the location and aided in treating the four victims at the scene.

What Investigators Found

The center of the incident appears to have unfolded along the Cottage Way corridor near the Home Depot located at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Investigators discovered more spent casings on the Cottage Way roadway. Ballistic damage were observed in the wrought iron fence bordering the nearby Home Depot. These discoveries suggested that at least one of the shooters had been shooting in a southerly direction from Cottage Way toward the Home Depot store. The Home Depot was put under lockdown as a precaution. Forensic investigators and law enforcement detectives stayed at the location late into the evening.

Detainees in Solano County

Information obtained via scanner audio established that a Kia connected to the shooting had been stopped in an area within Solano County. Four individuals were Arden Arcade shooting April 2026 in the vehicle at the time of the stop. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were heading to pick up the four detainees to collect the individuals for further questioning. Surveillance footage revealed that there were two gunmen.
